See below for original post. Basically I posted a negative review on Yelp & Google about a spammy company that tries to recruit people to sell life insurance, and they threatened to sue me. I talked to a lawyer today, and on their advice, I took down my reviews.
I read to the lawyer my original review that was only up for an hour before I revised it. He said because I made a particular negative statement about the company where I said "I'm sure," and not "I think," or something else that made it clear that this was only my opinion, this was an "arguably defamatory statement."
Even though there's a good chance this company wouldn't pursue an actual lawsuit against me, the lawyer said it's probably best to just take down the review so these assholes leave me alone, because there's that little opening for them to possibly have a claim against me.
I notified the company that I took down the reviews, and they've confirmed they're not going to pursue any further legal action.
Now if there was only some way for me to get even....
